School Safety

Mar 12, 2025

On Wednesday, March 12, high school students shared their concerns with a security staff member that they had heard a rumor that someone was going to threaten the school and buses after school. Local authorities were contacted and both the Yakima Sheriff’s Office and the Yakima Police Department provided a presence at school during the school day and after school. The school day ended without incident and our students were transported home safely on our school buses. We appreciate our partnership with both the YSO and the YPD, knowing that they take all threats seriously.

We do appreciate that our high school students reported their concerns and we encourage all students to follow the “See Something – Say Something” response. If students see something or hear something that is a concern for school safety, they should contact a trusted adult, just like our high school students did this afternoon.

In addition, anyone with a concern for school safety can use the safety hotlines, the online P3 Tips website, or the P3 Tips app to report their concerns.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, “schools must create ways for students to safely report such troubling behaviors that may lead to dangerous situations.”

Contact a trusted adult, use the hotlines that are available, or contact your school principal directly if you have any concerns about school safety.
